Rooted in Nature, Respectful of It.

At Marais Salt, sustainability isn’t an afterthought it’s built into every method we use, from the marsh to the jar. Here’s how we protect the coastlines and traditions our salt comes from.

Why Marais

Our Commitment

We believe true purity starts with respecting the land and sea that give us our salt. That means working with nature’s rhythm, not against it and leaving every marsh as untouched as we found it.

Traditional Harvesting, Zero Machinery

We never use heavy machinery or industrial extraction methods. Hand raking preserves the natural salt marsh ecosystem, protecting the delicate balance of water, wildlife, and mineral rich soil that takes generations to form.

Protecting the Salt Marshes

The marshes we harvest from in Guérande, Camargue, and Baja California are fragile natural habitats. Our small batch methods ensure these ecosystems continue to thrive for generations of harvesters to come.

Minimal Environmental Footprint

No kilns, no chemical processing, no artificial drying. Our salt is dried naturally by sun and wind alone, meaning our production process consumes a fraction of the energy used in conventional salt manufacturing.

Supporting Traditional Harvesting Communities

We work directly with local, generational harvesters paludiers and saliniers who’ve passed down these techniques for centuries. Choosing Marais Salt means supporting the livelihoods and heritage of these coastal communities.

Sustainable, Minimal Packaging

Our jars are reusable glass, and our packaging is designed to minimize waste no unnecessary plastic, no excess materials. Just what’s needed to protect your salt from harvest to home.

Preserving Coastlines for the Future

We’re committed to responsible sourcing that doesn’t deplete or damage the coastal environments we depend on. Every harvest is measured, monitored, and limited to what the land can naturally sustain.
